August 9, 2016. Finished going through the Digest of Services for the Artillery searching for information on DCM winners, and updating casualties if other information is shown - nature of wound etc.

August 3, 2016. Action at 13-12-1899 at Zoutpans Drift tidied up, casualties had various locations; Ramah, Orange River and dates 13 and 14 December. Those killed were marked as "died of wounds".

April 21, 2016. For all VCs direct link provided to the London Gazette, all linked to a gazetteer location. Where a citation location is vague, The Register now provides an exact location.

Ongoing - we are working on a major update to the recipients of the Distingusihed Conduct Medal - names, medal entitlements, sources and of course adding details of why the DCM was awarded if we can find it. This will be the best source of DCM information yet compiled.

November 30, 2015 Added in date rejoined and location for 69 battery RFA priosner's of war after the epic action at Blood River Poort.

October 5, 2015 Revised casualties for Imperial Light Infantry at Spion Kop. New memorials and other information updated.


September 7, 2015 Revised casualty locations for the Queen's (Royal West Surrey) Regiment during the relief of Ladysmith. They were base camps like Spearman's or Venter's Spruit, or just Ladysmith. They have been updated to the actual locations they fought - Bastion Hill, Vaal Krantz and so on.

August 16, 2015 Revised the gazetteer entry for Kromspruit(2) - the action on January 3, 1901 involving the Commander-in-Chief's Bodyguard. Recorded in the official casualty rolls as "nr Reitz", in British histories as Kromspruit, following Lourens & Watt (SAMHJ 2008) now Fredericksdale the famr next to Krmspruit(2). All casualties have been updated to reflect this.

February 18, 2013 The Official Casualty Rolls confuses the separate but related actions on 7 June 1900 at Rhenoster Camp and Roodewal. As far as is possible the location has been corrected for many of the casualties.

January 25, 2013 The Official Casualty Roll entry for "Trenanfontein" has been identified as Treurfontein and added to the gazetteer.

March 3, 2008 - 750 new records added. Have begun to extract data from The Times Digital Archive, this adds first names, gives details of wounds, specifies cause of death usually noted in the Official Casualty Rolls as 'disease' and also notes soldiers in hospital who survived their illnesses.

February 24, 2008 - 350 new records added. All the names from the QSA roll for the Van Alen Field Hospital have been entered.

February 17, 2008 - 500 new records added. All the names from the QSA roll for the Rhodesian Regiment have been entered. This has enabled an updating of the casualty roll by adding missing squadron designations, initials and correcting errors in the Official Casualty Rolls.
